Twenty years ago, Luxuria Group began with a simple but ambitious idea at a family kitchen table in Calgary. Today, that idea has grown into one of the city’s most dynamic and diversified companies. Luxuria’s story stands as a compelling example of what can happen when vision, discipline and belief in people come together at the right time.
When Harvir Randev and Charnjit Randev immigrated to Canada in the 1970s, they arrived with a willingness to work hard and build a better future. Like many newcomers, they took on multiple jobs while quietly holding onto a long-term goal of starting a business of their own.
Harvir worked at Amtech Plastics while Charnjit played a behind-the-scenes role at the Delta Calgary Airport Hotel. In both environments, they experienced something that left a lasting impression. Employees were treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their position. That approach would later shape the culture they hoped to build themselves.
As they raised their three children, conversations at home often returned to entrepreneurship. The family spoke openly about building a company grounded in respect, accountability and a sense of pride in one’s work.
“They felt valued where they worked, and it stayed with them,” says Harpreet Randev, vice president of operations and strategy. “They would often say that when we start our business, we are going to treat people the same way. There was always a belief that it would happen.”
That belief began to take form in 2003 when Harvir started building homes in his spare time. What started as a side project quickly revealed its potential. The family recognized an opportunity to build something meaningful together and committed to turning it into a full-time pursuit.
In 2006, their daughter Gurpreet Randev became the company’s first employee, marking the official launch of Luxuria Homes. From the beginning, the business was a collective effort, shaped by long hours, shared responsibility and a clear sense of purpose, with each member contributing in whatever capacity was required of them.
The company took a significant step forward in 2013 when their son Gurveer Randev graduated from the Haskayne School of Business and joined the organization, while Harpreet brought her years of experience in marketing and strategy into the fold. Around the kitchen table, the family formalized their structure and began to scale the business with greater intention and direction.
“The company did not grow through connections or shortcuts,” says Harpreet. “It was built through hard work, trust and a willingness to bet on ourselves.”
That approach proved effective. As demand increased, so did the team’s size and capabilities. Luxuria attracted individuals who shared its values and wanted to be part of a collaborative environment.
In a marked contrast to what many caution against in mixing business with pleasure, the family intentionally welcomed friends and relatives into the business, creating a strong foundation of trust. Over time, that network expanded organically as employees recommended others who aligned with the culture.
Manpreet Nahil, vice president of construction, played an important role in expanding the company in both residential construction and commercial development. More recently, Gurpreet returned from Ontario, stepping into a leadership role overseeing the automotive division as vice president of strategy and development.
Today, Luxuria Group employs more than 350 people across multiple divisions. Despite its growth, the company continues to operate with the same people-first mindset that defined its early days.
Employee well-being remains a priority. The organization promotes flexibility, encourages balance and supports team members in managing responsibilities both inside and outside of work. It is a culture that values initiative and creative thinking, where individuals are given the space to try new ideas and learn from experience.
“We have always believed that if we take care of our people, they will take care of everything else,” says Harpreet. “That philosophy has guided our growth from the beginning.”
From building a small number of homes each year, Luxuria has grown into a leading homebuilder, now delivering an average of approximately 250 single-family homes annually along with duplexes, townhomes and multi-family developments. The company has expanded beyond Calgary into Chestermere, Cochrane, Airdrie, Okotoks, Red Deer and Victoria, with active projects in 14 communities.
Luxuria Homes has earned a reputation for creating high-quality, customizable residences. Each home is designed with attention to detail and built to reflect the individual preferences of its owner. The focus is not only on aesthetics but also on craftsmanship and long-term value.
One notable project is the fully customizable townhome development in Calgary’s University District. Each unit draws inspiration from a different global city, including Edinburgh, Manhattan and São Paulo, resulting in a distinctive and personalized living experience.
Behind the scenes, the company has invested heavily in vertical integration. Luxuria operates its own in-house trades, including excavation, concrete flatwork, siding, roofing and painting. This approach allows the team to maintain consistent quality while improving efficiency and timelines.
The business has also expanded into apartment construction, property management, retail and land development. In partnership with JL Developments, Luxuria is preparing to begin work on its first large-scale development site. The 160-acre project will include residential, mixed-use and commercial components, along with plans for a future school.
In addition, Luxuria continues to grow its commercial portfolio in Calgary. The company currently manages 235,000 square feet of commercial retail space, including medical and dental clinics, and is developing a new 70,000-square-foot medical facility near the Alberta Children’s Hospital. This will be its first project with surgical capacity.
Diversification has also extended into the automotive sector. Since entering the industry in 2019, Luxuria now operates four locations within the Fix Auto Network and two collision centres under the TD Auto Centre Network.
“We have built a vertically integrated model,” says Gurveer, now CEO. “From mechanical shops to towing and in-house capabilities, we are able to control quality and deliver a more complete service.”
Over the past two decades, Luxuria Group has grown into a fully integrated organization that continues to evolve with the needs of the market. Its success is rooted not only in strong leadership and strategic growth, but also in the relationships it has built along the way.
Clients often remain connected to the company long after their projects are complete, leading to repeat business and referrals that have played a key role in Luxuria’s continued expansion.
Luxuria moves forward with a clear sense of identity and purpose. A statement displayed in its corporate office reflects that mindset:
We believe in people.
We believe in possibility.
We believe the best is still ahead.
Because if we played it safe, we would not be Luxuria.
We would be everyone else.
Luxuria Group
One Team.
Limitless Potential.
With a foundation built on integrity, craftsmanship and service, Luxuria Group continues to look ahead. Twenty years in, the company remains focused on growth, innovation and delivering lasting value, proving that its potential is far from realized.
