Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is proud to announce the overwhelming success of our Big Brave fundraiser, benefiting Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. A total of $77,372 was donated in memory of Ella Orlic, a Grade 3 CFIS student who bravely battled cancer before passing away in January 2024.
The Big Brave event held in June, saw students and staff come together in an inspiring display of solidarity by shaving, cutting and colouring their hair. This heartwarming initiative was a testament to the school community’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of children affected by cancer.
The fundraiser was a part of a year-long effort supporting Camp Kindle, a program of Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, which provides vital support and a place of comfort, fun and healing for Alberta families fighting childhood cancer.
Dana Silver, director of Advancement at CFIS, expressed gratitude for the generous contributions and the unity displayed: “This event not only honored Ella’s memory but also brought hope and support to many families dealing with childhood cancer. The remarkable sum raised shows the compassion and generosity of our community. Each donation is a sign of hope for these children and their families, showing them they are not alone. We are grateful for the support of everyone who participated and donated.”
The assembly featured a special appearance by Tracey Martin, CEO of Kids Cancer Foundation of Alberta, who joined the CFIS community in this brave act to raise awareness and support for children with cancer.
The tremendous amount raised exemplifies the strength and compassion of our community, sending a powerful message of hope and solidarity to children and families affected by cancer.
We are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed and participated in making this event a remarkable success.
